IGP Scholar Tahmina Painda

Biography

Tahmina is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Columbia's School of General Studies, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Computer Science. She has been on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters and is a member of the School of General Studies' Honors Society. She has received the GS Service Award as well as the Change Agent Award. Born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan, Tahmina has a deep passion for women’s empowerment, social justice, and human rights. She is particularly committed to raising mental health awareness within the Afghan community. Tahmina is a fellow in MCN’s Millennium Fellowship program and has served as the president of the Afghan Student Alliance at Columbia, where she leads the organization’s events and initiatives.
