Biography

Lavanya Mani is a second-year Master of Public Administration student at Columbia SIPA. Her focus is on international economic policy, with a specialization in data and quantitative analysis. Before attending Columbia, Lavanya worked as a corporate finance lawyer for over five years, handling major foreign direct investment and cross-border M&A deals. She has represented clients from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia, including the sovereign wealth fund of Singapore. She also spent two years working on sustainable economic development programs in Africa and South Asia, collaborating with policymakers and organizations in those regions. During summer 2023, Lavanya worked with the World Bank's Global Debt team on updating the debt sustainability analysis framework for low-income countries. Lavanya's passion lies in the intersection of sovereign debt, global politics, and their influence on countries' global positioning. She aims to work with the IMF on sovereign debt matters in the future.
