Jazilah Salam

Biography
Jazilah Salam is a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) candidate at Columbia SIPA. She is passionate about the impact of technology on society, particularly the implications of technology on freedom of expression. Jazilah is currently working at the Oversight Board, where she works to protect free expression and uphold global human rights standards by assessing and improving Meta’s policies.
Prior to SIPA, she was a research assistant at the Technology and Social Change Project at Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center, where she wrote case studies on media manipulation. She has also served on PEN America's Free Expression and Digital Safety team, focusing on the ways that online abuse stifles free speech.
Hailing from Bangladesh, she has also engaged in human rights advocacy and development work through positions at Columbia's Knight First Amendment Institute, BRAC, and The Hunger Project. She graduated cum laude from Barnard College with a BA in political science and human rights.
