Biography
Ben Vleugel is a second-year Master of International Affairs candidate and International Fellow at Columbia SIPA. He is completing SIPA’s Energy and Environment concentration with specializations in data and quantitative analysis and on Latin America. Ben is very interested in policy innovation to curb global greenhouse gas emissions and to help address equity issues in the fight against climate change. Before joining SIPA, Ben worked out of Vancouver, Canada, as a researcher on conservation financing and then for a startup that develops nature-based carbon offsets. Ben has also worked on energy and environmental files for Canada’s foreign ministry at Canada’s embassy in Madrid and at Canada’s consulate in New York.
Ben has lived in five countries and fluently speaks three languages. In his spare time, Ben loves discovering new musical genres, traveling, and going on canoe camping trips in remote parts of Canada.
