Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What is Human in a World of Machines
SIPA’s Institute of Global Politics cosponsored the October 31 book launch of Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What is Human in a World of Machines, by Dr. Joy Buloamwini.
Buolamwini is the founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, a groundbreaking MIT researcher, a model, and an artist. She advises world leaders on preventing AI harms. Her research on facial recognition technologies transformed the field of AI auditing. Her TED talk on algorithmic bias has been viewed over 1.6 million times.
She discussed her book with Sinead Bovell, a futurist and the founder of WAYE, an organization that prepares youth for a future with advanced technologies, with a focus on non-traditional and minority markets.
The Ford Foundation, another cosponsor, hosted the event at its office in midtown Manhattan. Also cosponsoring were All Tech Is Human, the Algorithmic Justice League, and Random House.
