IGP Rapid Response Evaluates Impact of Trump-Xi Summit in Washington

On October 1, the Institute of Global Politics (IGP) hosted a Rapid Response webinar titled “Analyzing the Trump-Xi Summit.” The discussion featured Thomas J. Christensen, James T. Shotwell Professor of International Relations and IGP Affiliated Faculty Member at Columbia SIPA, Pritzker Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs; Erica Downs, senior research scholar at Columbia SIPA’s Center on Global Energy Policy; Julian Gewirtz, IGP Senior Research Scholar at Columbia SIPA, former Senior Director for China and Taiwan Affairs at the US National Security Council, and author of Never Turn Back; Matt Turpin, visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and former Director for China at the US National Security Council; and Edward Wong, diplomatic correspondent at the New York Times and author of At the Edge of Empire: A Family's Reckoning with China. The conversation was introduced by Keren Yarhi-Milo, Dean of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, Adlai E. Stevenson Professor of International Relations, IGP Cofounder, and Faculty Advisory Board Member; and moderated by Zongyuan Liu, IGP Senior Research Scholar at Columbia SIPA and author of Sovereign Funds: How the Communist Party of China Finances Its Global Ambitions.
