IGP Across the Aisle Examines Presidential Power and Authority
On February 11, the Institute of Global Politics (IGP) hosted an installment of the Across the Aisle series, which features discussions between prominent domestic and global leaders with opposing viewpoints. These discussions aim to model and highlight for students the value of respectful civil discourse while facilitating dialogue across differences.
IGP Faculty Advisory Board Member Timothy Naftali welcomed the audience and introduced the panelists. Thomas H. Lee, Leitner Family Professor of International Law at Fordham Law School and Special Counsel to the General Counsel of the US Department of Defense in the first Trump administration, spoke with Gillian Metzger, Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law at Columbia Law School and Acting Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel in the Biden Administration, in a conversation moderated by Matthew Waxman, Liviu Librescu Professor of Law at Columbia Law School.
