Experts Address the Escalating Threat of Online Violence Against Women in Public Life

On January 28, the IGP Technology & Democracy Initiative and the IGP Women’s Initiative partnered with UN WomenTheNerve, and the Centre for Journalism and Democracy at City St. George’s, University of London, to host an event titled “The Escalating Threat of Online Violence Against Women in Public Life.” The discussion featured Sarah Hendriks, director of the policy, programme, and intergovernmental support division at UN Women; Julie Posetti, director of the Information Integrity Initiative at TheNerve and professor of journalism and chair of the Centre for Journalism & Democracy at City St George’s, University of London; and Maria Ressa, Nobel Peace Prize-Winning journalist and Professor of Professional Practice and IGP Faculty Advisory Board Member at Columbia SIPA. The conversation was introduced by Camille François, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Faculty of International and Public Affairs and IGP Affiliated Faculty member, and moderated by Jennifer Klein, Professor of Professional Practice and Director of IGP Women’s Initiative at Columbia SIPA.
