Biography

Stacey Abrams is a New York Times best-selling author, entrepreneur, and political leader. In 2018, she was the first Black woman in US history to become the gubernatorial nominee for a major party. Before running for governor, Abrams served as minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Abrams has launched multiple nonprofit organizations devoted to democracy protection, voting rights, and effective public policy. She has also cofounded successful companies, including a financial services firm, an energy and infrastructure consulting firm, and the media company Sage Works Productions. Abrams currently sits on both nonprofit and corporate boards, and is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations. 

A tax attorney by training, Abrams holds degrees from Spelman College, the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, and Yale Law School. In the fall of 2023, she will begin an appointment as the inaugural Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair for Race and Black Politics at Howard University.
