Salam Fayyad
Economist and Former Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority
Biography
Salam Fayyad is an economist and a former prime minister of the Palestinian Authority. Fayyad held roles at the International Monetary Fund from 1987 to 2001, including as senior resident representative in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, where he subsequently served as the chief executive officer of the Arab Bank.
Fayyad was named minister of finance of the PA in 2002, serving on several cabinets and introducing extensive financial reforms. In 2006, Fayyad ran and won a seat on an independent slate for the Palestinian Legislative Council, taking on the role of finance and budget committee chairman. He became prime minister in 2007 and held office until 2013.
Fayyad founded "Future for Palestine" in 2013 as a nonprofit development foundation. He currently serves as a visiting senior scholar and lecturer in public policy at the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, as well as the Daniella Lipper Coules ’95 Distinguished Visitor in Foreign Affairs. Additionally, he serves as a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and as a distinguished fellow at the Brookings Institution.
