Philippe Maass

Philippe Maass is an MIA candidate at Columbia SIPA, concentrating in Climate, Energy, and Environment with a specialization in Technology Policy and Innovation. A Washington, DC-area native, he brings more than five years of government affairs experience across the financial services and energy sectors.

Before Columbia, Philippe spent over four years at OneMain Financial, ultimately serving as associate director of public policy and representing the firm before Congress and state legislatures across the country. He also served as interim director of corporate social responsibility, overseeing the firm’s financial literacy program and leading efforts to improve its ESG ratings. Earlier in his career, he held policy roles with the New York State Assembly and the UK House of Commons.

At SIPA, Philippe completed a practicum funded by the Center on Global Energy Policy, developing a market entry strategy for a climate technology startup looking to deploy in Malaysia. Alongside his studies, he is also building the commercial strategy for a critical minerals recycling venture at Hallow Energy. After graduation, he plans to continue his policy work, focusing on building new supply chains for critical technologies that strengthen energy security and technological innovation.
