Biography

Mariley Melo is a Pi Sigma Alpha inductee and senior at Barnard College, where she studies Political Science and History with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She currently serves as a semester college intern at the New York County District Attorney’s Office for the fall 2025 semester. On campus, Mariley is the founder and coeditor-in-chief of Columbia’s first and only Hispanic Pre-Law Review, former vice president of Athena Mock Trial, and current vice president of events for Columbia Women in Law & Politics.

She has previously interned for US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, and the Dominican law firm De Camps, Vásquez & Valera. Across these roles, she has conducted research on queer Dominican communities, drafted legal casework, and translated constituent correspondence to expand accessibility.

Mariley is deeply interested in immigration justice, democracy, Latin American politics, and the rule of law, and has volunteered with the Undocumented Women’s Fund. As a bilingual and bicultural student from the Dominican Republic, she is committed to uplifting marginalized voices through public service, legal scholarship, and advocacy.
