Biography
Jonathan Gomez Noriega, an Executive MPA candidate at Columbia SIPA, is a former Olympic swimmer who currently serves as the primary aide to Mayor Steven Fulop MPA ’06 of Jersey City. He also holds a degree in economics from Southern Methodist University,
Born in Cali, Colombia, Jonathan migrated to New Jersey with his family at age 13; by 16 he had competed for his native country at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships. He went on to make the semifinals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and won the bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, both in the men's 200-meter butterfly.
In 2017 Jonathan founded the Flor de Mayo Foundation, which has helped more than 1,200 children in Colombia access sports, education, health, and other cultural activities. He was recognised as “Colombia’s Person of the Year” by El Espectador in 2020.
He aims to bridge the gap between government and communities and drive change on a global scale. In his free time, Jonathan finds balance in jujitsu, enduro mountain biking, and marathon running.
