Homaira Sharifi

Homaira Sharifi is an MPA student at Columbia SIPA, concentrating in International Security and Diplomacy. Originally from Afghanistan, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American University of Afghanistan.

After the political upheaval in 2021, Homaira chose to remain in Afghanistan and serve her community, working with the International Committee of the Red Cross from 2022–24. There, she led human resources initiatives and staff development projects across the country, experiences that deepened her commitment to international peacebuilding through diplomacy.

At SIPA, Homaira continues to advance her mission, serving as a fall 2025 orientation leader, where she mentors incoming students and supports their transition into graduate life. Additionally, she has been selected as an Institute of Global Politics Student Scholar for the 2025–26 cohort, contributing her leadership and insights to strengthen the program’s goals of fostering global collaboration and academic excellence.
