Grace Beeman

Grace Beeman is a third-year JD candidate at Columbia Law School. With a focus on international, environmental, and contract law, Grace is interested in how legal frameworks,both international and domestic, can be designed to close the gap in global climate action. She is pursuing an LLM in International Criminal Law at the University of Amsterdam alongside her JD.

At Columbia, Grace serves as the senior notes editor of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law. She has worked as a legal intern at the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, where she conducted research on litigation involved in renewable energy project siting, and as a student attorney for Columbia's Environmental and Climate Law Clinic, where she drafted model legislation on community benefit agreements and advised a municipality in a major contract dispute. Most recently, she’s worked on cross-border litigation and arbitration matters for an international law firm in both their New York and Rome offices. Prior to law school, she worked in management consulting in the DC area.

At IGP, Grace hopes to continue exploring how law and policy may serve as incentive-setting and action-coordinating tools to address international challenges like climate change. Long term, she hopes to develop an international legal practice and to contribute to the development of the law, both private and public, as it responds to climate change.
