Emma Hatheway

Emma Hatheway is an MPA candidate, concentrating in Technology Policy and Innovation. Before graduate school, she spent six years at Wunderkind, an AI-driven marketing platform, where she led the Product Strategy team. That work put her close to the pace of AI product development and the growing tension around data privacy, which raised questions about the guardrails meant to govern it.

At Columbia, Emma is president of the Responsible Tech Club and a PA for the Technology Policy and Innovation concentration. She interned in the Artificial Intelligence division of the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation, where she helped stand up the new Office of Algorithmic Accountability, mapping AI risks and controls to inform risk mitigation standards across the City's agencies. She also interned in the Trust & Safety practice at All Tech Is Human. She also has experience researching and writing about child safety in the digital ecosystem, and took part in a legislative roundtable on AI and online safety regulation alongside Connecticut senators and the governor's office.

After SIPA, Emma plans to continue working at the intersection of technology and government, building AI governance infrastructure that lets private and public institutions adopt AI responsibly.
