Anton Macfadyen

Anton Macfadyen is an MIA candidate at Columbia SIPA with a concentration in International Security and Diplomacy and a minor in Climate, Energy, and Environment. Originally from the UK, his academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of security and energy policy in Africa.

Prior to SIPA, Anton worked as a Sub-Saharan analyst at a political intelligence firm, where he advised corporate clients on emerging risks such as terrorist incidents, intercommunal violence or interstate conflict across Africa. He has also published extensively on the political situation in the Caucasus, with a focus on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Most recently Anton completed an internship at UNICEF’s office in Pemba, Mozambique. On campus, he serves as the events chair for the Conflict Resolution Collective, where he has pursued his goal of creating more spaces at Columbia for discussions and debates on African politics and affairs.
