Biography
Appointed to the Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton Chair in Women, Peace, Security and Justice at Queen’s in January 2024, Professor Marsha Henry was previously Associate Professor at the Department of Gender Studies in the London School of Economics, where she was also a founding member of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security. She served as Deputy Director of the Centre from 2015-2018 and as Interim Director for the academic Year 2018-19.
Professor Henry’s research is concerned with the gendered and racialized politics of violence; militarization; global south development; international aid and intervention; and conflict, peace, and security. She is the author of several books, the latest of which is: The End of Peacekeeping: Gender, Race, and the Martial Politics of Intervention (University of Pennsylvania Press). Professor Henry has also advised a number of national governments on women’s participation in the armed forces, combatting sexual exploitation and abuse in humanitarian settings, and developing anti-racist and diversity strategies in foreign policy ministries.
